Forever Friday: Historian Recycle Bin

Did you know that Historian has a recycle bin?  When you delete from Historian, the media goes there.  That’s both good and bad.  Good: you can recover accidental deletions.  Bad: it takes up precious hard drive space.

I make it a regular habit to empty the recycle bin.  To do that, click File > Properties.

Then click Support > Empty Recycle Bin.  Sometimes it’s kind of fun to see how much space you will recover – especially if you haven’t done this in a very long time.

How much space did you save today?  I’ll send you a little goodie to the highest number posted here.

Forever Friday: Vacation Photos Workflow

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season!  Memories were made and now is the time to consider how you’ll document them.

We were able to take a last moment trip to Mexico and had a really wonderful time!  We did manage to take a bunch of pictures but less so than in past trips.  Since I’ve been slacking on finishing my 2015 family album and haven’t started 2016, I decided to start this year by working on our vacation album.  I’ve already pulled the pictures off the camera and into Historian.  They’re all tagged and star-rated.  Here’s my checklist:

  1. Remove all images from all cameras (we used a point & shoot as well as a DSLR.) into a folder on my personal computer.
  2. Delete the really (really) bad pictures.
  3. Load all pictures into Historian.
  4. Select all and Name them.  I used “Grand Luxxe Nueveo Vallarta” for ease in searching later.
  5. Tag them.  I put them all into the Nuevo Vallarta box (we’ve been at least 4 times in the past 15 years and they’re all in one place).  I also tagged the images for myself and my husband to make it easier for future searching.
  6. Go through each image and star-rate.  I use 4 stars as the indicator that it must be used in my photo book and to be uploaded to my online Forever account.  Three stars are the next best, in case I’d like to put more into the photo book.
  7. Upload the 4 starred images to Forever (this is super easy as you do it right from Historian).
  8. Share the Forever album with family and friends.
  9. Delete the folder from my personal computer.

We took just over 400 pictures during the seven day trip.  My Historian account shows 365 after I deleted the really (really) bad ones.  I had 45 that were four starred and shared with family and friends.  This entire process took me maybe 1 to 2 hours total.  Now I’m ready to work on the album!

Forever Friday: Back to School Sale(s) in August

Forever has decided to do some special promotions for Back to School!

Permanent Storage is on sale for 20%!  That means the 10GB account that was $349 is only $279.20.  If you’re currently using the free account, this is a great time to upgrade at a great price.  I’ve been putting my scanned CM albums into my own account and am loving the ease of being able to share layouts to Facebook as well as being able to enjoy viewing them on my phone through the Forever app.

In addition, both Artisan and Historian are on sale for the rest of the month.  If you’ve always wanted to go digital, Artisan is the scrapbooking software I love.  I can use it when I travel, whether or not I’m connected to the internet.  And Historian keeps me organized.  I can tag, star rate and tell the story for all my images.  I can even push them from Historian into my Forever account.  So easy!

Just click the images above to get more information.  And stay tuned… there’s more sales to come starting next week!

Forever Friday: Software Update and Sales

Happy Friday!  It’s been warm in Northern California!  Summer is here for sure.

Did you know that there was a major update for Artisan (and a smaller one for Historian). Forever has improved some functionality that’s been bothering many of us.  I’m so glad that they listen to their users.

The on feature that I’ve already set is the ability to turn off the ‘double-click to edit’.  Here’s where you can fix that one.

Also, today starts a great sale on software and digital art.  Use the promo code HOT20 to get 20% off through the end of the month.   There’s a ton of new digital artwork that’s been released today.  I’ll share some layouts I did for my Creative Team duties next week.

News and Updates about Artisan

Upgrading to Artisan 5

Are you ready to upgrade your digi-scrapping software?  I’ve been playing around with the new Artisan 5 and am truly enjoying the new features!

First, purchase the Upgrade here .  Before you purchase, please make sure you are using a 64-bit machine, as Artisan 5 will only work on such machines.  Once purchased, download the upgrade file to a ‘known’ location on your hard drive.  I have a Downloads folder where I put all such files.    Double click the Artisan5Setup.exe file to start the installation.  Follow the prompts and allow the installation to finish.

Once the installation is done, the following window comes up.  Your selection will depend on whether or not you are upgrading from Storybook Creator 4 or Artisan 4 but I highly recommend you allow this step to happen.

Before you open Artisan 5, make sure you have your license numbers for both Artisan 4 and 5.  To find the license number for Artisan 4, open that version and click the ? > About in the Upper Right corner.

You will find the Artisan 5 license code in the confirmation email after your purchase.  Once you have these codes, look for a new icon on your computer desktop and double click to open Artisan 5.

Enter your new license code as well as the Artisan 4 license code.  When accepted, the system will now Index your digital kits.  This can take a while.  I have over 50GB in kits and it took maybe 30 minutes?   Keep in mind that as you add kits, this index will occur at the login after you have added the kits.  Those take much less time as it’s usually only a kit or two.

For the most part, this version is working great!  As more and more people are using it, some bugs are being found.  When you start the software, take a quick look in the bottom left corner to see if there are updates and make the effort to install them as soon as you can.  Bug fixes are part of your purchase price.

You’re now ready to get started!  Want a printable version of the above steps?  Just click here!

Stay tuned for more information on some of the new/changed features.

For now, enjoy these Previews compiled by the Pixies at Pixels2Pages.
